The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (CCMH at SickKids) is a child and youth mental health centre integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). CCMH at SickKids is undertaking an ambitious agenda to establish a revitalized academic community mental health centre that provides the highest quality of care, combined with excellence in teaching and community-based research. CCMH at SickKids is located across two sites in Toronto and offers both in-person and virtual care to clients and their families, from prevention and early intervention through assessment, counselling and therapy and intensive services. We are also connected to the continuum of mental health services for children and youth supported by SickKids: the Brain and Mental Health Program, the SickKids TeleLink Mental Health Program, the SickKids CCMH Learning Institute and our online resources through AboutKidsHealth. We are currently seeking applicants for a full-time permanent 1.0 FTE Clinical Supervisor.


Operational Management

  • Participates in the development and implementation of operational plans that flow from the strategic plan
  • Provides leadership and guidance in developing and carrying out changes as part of continual Quality Improvement plans
  • Identifies and responds to staff and operational needs and escalates issues, as appropriate, to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Supervises staff within the Intensive Services program interviewing and hiring new employees, carrying out performance appraisals, directing the training, development, and succession planning of staff and carrying out disciplinary actions
  • Makes decisions within established clinical treatment policies, procedures and best practices referring unusual or unique situations
  • May act on behalf of the assigned Manager during absences Attends meetings to present information and provide advice
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of occupational health and safety trends, best practices and legislation within the industry
  • Makes decisions on policies, procedures and best practices ensuring occupational health and safety programs meet the needs of the organization, as well as adhere to legislation

Clinical Supervision and Practice Leadership

  • Supervises day-to-day clinical services provided by staff to clients through monitoring the implementation of treatment plans, case management, referral services and the delivery of clinical services to clients ensuring adherence to College and Accreditation standards
  • Supervises case crisis and identifies potential risks in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of clinical treatment trends, best practices, and policies within the field
  • Implements and embeds best practices within the team focusing on improving practice and supporting staff to implement what they have learned in trainings
  • Supports fidelity to defined models of care and to accepted standards of practice.
  • Has sound knowledge of family therapy modalities and trauma-related therapies
  • Reviews incident and serious occurrence reports handling complaints
  • Responds to crisis calls, clients with escalated concerns or client grievances

Direct Service

  • Ensures provision of individualized assessments, treatments and follow-up services for individual/family/group therapy and treatment
  • Ensures provision of case management, liaison and referral services for clients
  • Coordinates services with internal and external service providers requesting and reviewing existing documentation and reports to inform client service and treatment planning
  • Ensures the development of service plans that support treatment planning in collaboration with family, supervisor/manager and inter-professional teams
  • Provides academic training and teaching to staff, students and volunteers, as required
  • Maintains a small case load as required and provides clinical leadership with complex or difficult cases


  • Master’s degree in social work or equivalent and a minimum of three years related supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability lead and motivate employees
  • Membership with the appropriate regulatory college such as Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, or College of Psychotherapists
  • First aid, CPR, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention
  • Experience and/or formal training in any of the following is an asset:
  • standard models of family therapy and group therapy are an asset (e.g., Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy)
  • trauma informed approaches and understanding of developmental trauma in individual, family, group and milieu therapies
  • clinical mental health assessment and intervention with culturally, linguistically diverse populations and gender diverse and neuro-divergent populations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively deal with all levels of staff and clients
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to coordinate complex crisis situations and solutions
  • Ability to incorporate values of a culturally competent practice of diversity and inclusiveness in all aspects of work
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as ability to use office equipment efficiently (telephone, photocopier, scanner, and fax)
  • Ability to work flexible hours and, on occasion, travel


  • Complies with the organization’s vision, policies and procedures
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by management
